CENTRE FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION IN AFRICA PARTNERS WITH ADAMAWA STATE MINISTRY OF YOUTH AND SPORTS TO DEVELOP THE STATE ACTION PLAN ON YOUTH, PEACE, AND SECURITY
In a significant stride towards fostering sustainable peace and empowering the youth in Adamawa state, the Centre for Sustainable Development and Education in Africa (CSDEA) has been instrumental in supporting the Adamawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports in the development of the Adamawa State Action Plan (SAP) on Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS). This collaborative effort aims to addresses the pressing challenges faced by the youth in the state and promote sustainable practices that will benefit the community at large.
The Adamawa State Action Plan is a comprehensive framework designed to enhance youth engagement and participation, conflict resolution, safe spaces for youth, and opportunities for their livelihoods and wellbeing. Recognizing the vital role that young people play in driving socio-economic growth, CSDEA has worked closely with the Ministry to ensure that the action plan reflects the needs and aspirations of the youth in Adamawa State.
Over the last one year, the Adamawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports with funding from CSDEA has facilitated workshops, consultations, and stakeholder engagements to gather insights and feedback from various youth groups, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), local government representatives, traditional and religious leaders from all the Local Government Areas of Adamawa State, and experts in the field of Youth, Peace, and Security. This inclusive approach has ensured that the action is not only well-informed but also resonates with the local context and priorities.
The finalized Adamawa State Action Plan on YPS outlines key strategies and initiatives aimed at empowering the youth through peace dialogues, skills development, entrepreneurship, and sports promotion. It emphasizes the importance of sustainable practices, encouraging young people to engage in activities that contribute to environmental conservation and community development.
The successful completion and validation of the Adamawa SAP-YPS marks a significant milestone for both the Adamawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Centre for Sustainable Development and Education in Africa. The validation exercise ensured that the SAP-YPS reflects the true voices and priorities of Adamawa’s youth and communities from Numan to Yola to Mubi. The validation process re-affirmed a shared commitment to a peaceful, secure, and youth-inclusive future.
The action plan in set to be launched soon, with plans for a public event that will bring together government stakeholders, youth representatives, religious and community members to celebrate this achievement and discuss the way forward for its implementation. The upcoming launch of the SAPYPS will mark the beginning of a new era of youth-led peacebuilding and development in Adamawa State. This process is a testament to what can be achieved when government, young people, civil society, traditional and religious institutions, and the youth work together toward a common goal.
